PhotogTravels
Prior to beginning my journey I spent the close to 9 months researching the different choices available from travel trailers, fifth wheels, camper trailers, pop-ups, to Class A Class C and Class B motorhomes.
My choice RV below was purchased based on the following reasons:
Storage:
Being that it’s only me I don’t need that much space but I do require some as I will be living full time in my home for 2 years.
Rear permanent bed:
I do not want to have to pull down or climb up and make my bed before I take a nap or crash for the night, so this one was important, and so far has been great!
Kitchen:
As much as I love restuarants my money would go fast, so cooking most my meals is important. Having a small kitchen and prep area allows me to save money and eat healthier.
Front Swivel Seats:
Living in a small RV every inch counts and being able to utilize the extra seating will be important to have several seating choices and if I end up with guests over for a meal or whatever. Unfortunately the RV i purchased did not have swivel seats, so I turned the passenger seat around and now have another seat for my living room, bonus is now i have extra storage space in front of that seat.
Bathroom:
The problem with some of the smaller RV’s is they are limited on space so they put the toilet inside the shower.I wanted my RV to have a separate toilet from the shower. I know shower time in an RV is limited and most end up using Gyms or RV park facilities, but when I’m boondocking which I plan on doing a lot of I will need to take comfortable showers……*side note being only 5′ 5′ makes small RV showers just right 🙂
Fuel:
Obviously I wanted to get the best gas mileage but there were 2 main reasons I went with diesel. First off you get better torque with a diesel engine, which helps you climb in mountains terrains. The second reason is the resale value, a diesel RV will retain its value whereas a gas RV will not. Diesel engines last in some cases five times longer than a gas engine. The unit I chose I average between 16 1/2 to 18 MPG.
The convenience of size vs comfort:
I needed something that was practical for not only driving around cities and towns but also for some off road as I will be boondocking quite a bit so I need to make sure the vehicle will handle it. I will be more long periods of time Living in the unit so it cant be so small I go stir crazy, although I do plan on spending as much time outside taking pictures and having fun as possible!
Cost:
What could I afford? Unfortunately, I had made some bad choices and sacrificed some things like all parents do, as a result I did not have the best credit nore was I able to show on paper large enough earnings. I also had no equity and had rented holmes my entire life. well now that i got that depressing stuff out of the way……
